Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you have a rodent problem or not, we work with our customers to answer questions and offer comprehensive advice when it comes to rodent control, prevention, and general use of our products.
I used Mint-X for the first time last night and it looks like the rodents still tried to get into the trash. What gives?
Rodents are creatures of habit. This is the very reason why your trash gets torn into by the same rodents every night. Just as they learn that your house/property is the one with the delicious lasagna, they will learn that your trash is now the one that has trash that smells of terrible mint… and they’ll learn to stay away.
The Mint-X Trash Bags have been proven to reduce animal torn bags after one week of repetitive usage. If you just bought Mint-X Trash Bags and noticed that your bags were still torn into after the first night of usage, it’s OK; that is normal. Continue using the Mint-X Bags. The curious rodents will soon learn to stay away from the Mint-X Bags altogether.
Most importantly, visit our Best Practices page. Remember that it’s the scent of the bag that keeps raccoons and rodents away, so for larger and more aggressive rodents, it’s important to make sure the scent is the strongest when the trash is left out for collection. Before putting the bag outside, put it inside a “fresh” Mint-X bag right out of the box. By doing this for a few weeks, you will ensure that the rodents are battling Mint-X when the scent is strongest.
What are these ingredients?
The ingredients listed on the box are plant-derived, essential oils. Even Methyl Salicylate, which is also known as “Oil of Wintergreen,” is a plant-derived oil. In addition, 98.2% of the Mint-X bag is plain old plastic; only .8% of the bag is the blend of the ingredients listed on the box.
How much more expensive is a Mint-X Rodent Repellent Trash Bag than a regular trash bag?
The best part about the Mint-X Trash Bag is that the benefits are huge but the price is not. A Mint-X bag is typically 8-10% more expensive than a regular bag. That is a pretty small number when you think about how much happier you, your employees, your tenants, and your sanitation workers will be when the rodents are gone.
I don’t have rodents, should I still use a Mint-X Trash Bag?
Absolutely. Look at the Mint-X bag as an insurance policy. It is much harder to get rid of rodents once they have become a problem versus preventing them from getting to you in the first place. The Mint-X bags are a preventative measure that will keep your staff and your property safe from rodent spread disease. Additionally, you’re already buying trash bags… So, for a comparable price, why not buy a bag that will keep rodents from terrorizing your trash and eliminate that foul garbage odor?
What does the bag smell like?
The bag smells like a breath mint. So while it smells great to us, imagine that smell amplified by 10,000… that’s what rodents smell when they come near Mint-X. In addition, not only does the bag keep rodents away but it will also eliminate that foul garbage odor.
My town is requiring me to use rodent resistant trash bags. How will they know I am actually using one?
The Mint-X logo is printed on each and every Mint-X Rodent Repellent Trash Bag as well as a distinctive green drawstring. (Additionally, when your trash hasn’t been touched and your neighbors trash is scattered all over the street, you’ll know who’s using Mint-X.)
Will the mint scent rub off on my hands and clothes?
No. The mint scent is added during the manufacturing (extrusion) process so the scent becomes part of the plastic and will not rub off on your hands or clothes.
Is the Mint-X bag harmful to my pets, children, me?
No, again. The EPA has classified the Mint-X Trash Bag as a “Biopesticide”. This means that there are no health risks to humans, animals or the environment. The bag is 100% safe to handle just like a regular trash bag.
Raccoons aren’t rodents!
Mint-X Rodent Repellent Trash Bags is the official EPA registered name of the product, and was named as such when our product was specifically effective against rodents. However, everywhere that the word “rodent” exists in our marketing material and literature, so does an asterisk indicating that the product applies to (and is effective against) the Norway Rat and Raccoons. We specifically identify Norway Rats and Raccoons because the term “Rodent” is too broad. We conservatively estimate that 95% of consumers would indeed associate any non-domesticated animal that forages through their trash as rodents — thus the Registered name of our product. However, for the most well-versed of consumers, we make sure to indicate “effective against the Norway Rat and Raccoon” — this is even indicated on the final slide of the TV commercial.
